Generation Wild of the Uncompaghre

Official Generation Wild Logo with white text "Generation Wild" on a red starburst background.

GOCO’s Generation Wild program, launched in 2015, helps communities across Colorado introduce kids and families to new outdoor experiences and inspires them to get outside more often. The program invests in 12  coalitions across the state, called ‘Generation Wild communities,’ which are made up of diverse youth-serving organizations. These coalitions provide free or low-cost programs that serve their communities and support inclusive access to the outdoors.

With leadership from the Montrose Recreation District, a group of outdoor organizations launched a coalition of community agencies in 2023 to connect the region’s kids with the outdoors. Founding members include the Montrose Recreation District, Friends of Youth and Nature, Hispanic Affairs Project, Colorado Canyons Association, and Voyager Youth Program.

Generation Wild funding from GOCO will help improve their efficiency and impact, supporting community engagement efforts, partnership development, programs, internships, and more. The Generation Wild program presents a unique opportunity to make a generational impact on our community by helping youth develop a relationship with nature that will impact the rest of their lives.

Community input and leadership  is important to this effort. If you would like to find out more, provide input on the sort of opportunities we need in our community, or otherwise want to be involved please email Astro Ball at Astro@montroserec.com.
